What is Fotona LipLase?
Fotona LipLase is a non-invasive laser treatment that enhances the lips through thermal stimulation of the tissue rather than injection. The laser induces remodeling of the epithelial and connective tissues without obvious epithelial injury — meaning you get the collagen-building effect without a wound, without downtime, and without anything foreign in your face.
Fotona LipLase is performed in steps that treat the lip from multiple angles:
- The “wet” lip (intraoral): Treated from inside the mouth, past the wet-dry line. This is the tightening and vermilion eversion step — it rolls the lip outward, making more of it visible.
- The “dry” lip (extraoral): Treated on the outer vermilion. This is the volume step, and the one that raises and sculpts the Cupid’s bow.
- Outlining: A defining pass along the labial border that sharpens the outline of the lip — the detail that makes lips read as “well-shaped” rather than simply “bigger.”
How Does Fotona LipLase Work?
The lips respond unusually well to controlled heat. Fotona LipLase uses Fotona’s SMOOTH® mode, a sequential burst of non-ablative Er:YAG pulses that warms the soft tissue to a depth of 200–500 microns without breaking the surface. That heat triggers a deliberate, measured reactive inflammatory response, which in turn increases the biosynthetic capacity of fibroblasts — the cells that build collagen. Over the following weeks those fibroblasts lay down new collagen in the lip and the perioral tissue, and the lip becomes fuller, firmer and better defined from the inside. Because the laser is delivered in stacked bursts held precisely on the same spot, the heat penetrates rather than spreading — which is what makes the effect meaningful rather than superficial. Treatment is delivered in multiple passes, with the commissures (the corners of the mouth) deliberately avoided. The result is your own tissue, remodeled. Nothing is added, so nothing can migrate, clump or be over-injected.

What to Expect During a Fotona LipLase Treatment
Your Fotona LipLase experience at Alpha Medical Aesthetics includes:
- Consultation: Dr. Kaveh assesses your lip shape, volume, border definition and perioral lines, and discusses what Fotona LipLase can realistically achieve for your anatomy.
- Comfort: Roughly 75% of patients tolerate Fotona LipLase with minimal discomfort and no anesthetic at all. For the remaining 25%, a topical anesthetic gel is available for both the intraoral and extraoral surfaces.
- Treatment: The intraoral step is performed first, then the extraoral step, then the outlining pass. You’ll feel warmth and a rapid tapping sensation.

Pre-Care Recommendations for Fotona LipLase
- Avoid sun exposure and tanning beds for two weeks before treatment.
